If most of your fridge’s surface is currently occupied by wedding invitations, we wouldn’t be surprised. We’re stepping right into wedding season this May, in new shoes, no less. Wedding dress codes will forever be head-scratching riddles, or will they? Below, we’re sharing our style suggestions for wedding guests attending nuptials at three classic, blissful locales: the beach, the garden, and the ballroom. Shop some of our favorite pieces and visit the collections we’ve created on Spring, and plan to be the (second) best dressed gal in attendance.

Garden
It’s hard to be in a bad mood with a garden wedding on the agenda. With pops of color from here to the end of the aisle, this dress code is all about sophisticated, elegant fun. Opt for classic shapes and silhouettes, don’t shy away from bold color, and of course feel free to wear florals, lots of ’em. The trick here is keeping the look polished. You want your outfit to take on a celebratory tone, but not a casual one. Some looks can be dressed up or down, but your garden wedding ensemble should do exactly what it was meant to do: bloom.

Beach
If we have to pick a favorite wedding venue, smart money is on the beach. Soft, bohemian-inspired ruffles, a coastal color palette, and a perfect excuse to keep makeup minimal but fresh. There’s nothing not to love. As far as footwear, heels and sand don’t mix. If you’re sure there will be a boardwalk or firm-footing situation available, opt for a heel with a relaxed, casual vibe, otherwise stick to something flat and shoreline-friendly. This venue allows for accessories to tone a dress down, or a dress to polish accessories up. It’s not fancy-fancy, it’s casual-fancy. And it works.

Ballroom
As dressed up as dressed up gets, the ballroom or black tie wedding is where after dark elegance comes to shine, sometimes literally. Though called for less often these days than we’d like, a ballroom wedding is all about celebratory sophistication. We love a sleek satin gown to set a gorgeous canvas for a statement earring, fun clutch, and an major shoe that’s been waiting for the right dance floor. Those special items you’ve been saving for a special occasion? The wait is over.
