Q:A: What should the first step be for a bride-to-be in thinking about what to wear for her wedding?
A: When a bride-to-be begins to think about what to wear for her wedding, the first thing to consider is their venue. The venue will set the tone for the entire event. If it’s a destination beach wedding your look will likely be very different than if it’s a black tie urban affair. Think about the overall vibe and aesthetic you want, and how your dress will translate.

Q: Are there any hard and fast rules for what a bride should wear anymore?
A: No, really anything goes today. A bride should wear something that makes her feel comfortable and beautiful, while still feeling and looking like yourself.

Q: How do you suggest incorporating color into a bridal look?
A: I personally recommend brides consider adding color through their accessories, specifically their shoes. At BRIDES, we find most women still want to wear a white gown, so colored shoes can be a fun way to personalize their look. Depending on the style and color, you can make a subtle statement that won’t distract from your gown, but will add an element of surprise when your shoes peek out from your dress.

Q: How important are accessories for a bridal look?
A: Accessories complete your wedding look and are so important. Have fun with them. It’s a fun way to play up or down a dress, and really personalize your look. Someone else could have your exact dress, but through different styling it can look completely different.

Q: How can a bride bare skin and still feel appropriate for a wedding?
A: Illusion is a really popular trend in bridal and can be a great way to show skin without baring it all. When choosing an illusion dress, the secret to keeping it tasteful is all in the placement. Decide what parts you want to show off, and how much is appropriate for your wedding. You don’t want to offend anyone, but it’s also your day so have fun with it.

Q: What’s your favorite bridal trend for Summer 2017?
A: My favorite bridal trend for summer 2017 is bare shoulders. It’s a huge trend in bridal and ready-to-wear, and a chic and elegant way to show a little skin.

Q: What’s your one piece of style advice for every bride?
A: Less is more! For example, if you have a very embellished dress, all you need is a great pair of shoes and a simple pair of stud or drop earrings, and keep your hair simple. Don’t over accessorize. If you have a simple dress, play it up with your accessories – statement earrings and a bold shoe can add a lot of personality to a clean look.
