Q: How will you celebrate Mother’s Day this year? Do you have any traditions?
A: Hopefully the kids will give me a bigger hug than usual in the morning. That is probably the most I can hope for!
Q: How has being a mother impacted your work as a designer?
A: I think being a mother makes me more focused and decisive as I am on a deadline every day and need to get home to cook dinner and be with family.
Q: How do you juggle the responsibilities of motherhood and your own line?
A: I really strive to have a balance, which is I work without break during the day and then get to just be home with the kids and my husband at night. I am also lucky in that it is hard for me to do much work from home, hence I get to really be at home when I am there.
Q: What’s one piece of advice you’d give to every new mother?
A: Don’t listen to all the chatter. There are lots of differing opinions about everything regarding child rearing. Just try to decide what you think is important and don’t be too influenced by others experiences.
Q: Any favorite anecdotes to share about your own mother?
A: My mother was always different than the other mothers; she cooked “weird” foods, sewed many of her own clothes, and always had me doing a craft project (no TV allowed in my house). As much as I complained, I credit her with opening my eyes to so many amazing experiences and ideas. Her motto was “always expect the unexpected” and she lives that!
Q: And what’s one piece of advice you’d give to every entrepreneur?
A: Perseverance is key, so figure out how to persevere, no matter what!
What are five pieces from your current collection that you’re really loving right now, and how would you wear them?
Embossed Organza Off The Shoulder Dress
If you know me, you know I love color. This dress is so flattering and I wore recently to a cocktail party in New Orleans. I love how it covers the shoulder (we have so many great sleeve options) and is also comfortable and lightweight.
Pleated Gingham Taffeta Open V-Neck Dress
Springtime calls for gingham! I love a great print and the fit and flare is so fun on this easy silhouette for a wedding, cocktail party, or anything in between.
Stretch Twill Placket Front Pant + Circle Stripe Knit Funnel Neck Sweater
For a more casual look I love this striped sweater and high waist pant with metal detailing on the pockets. It’s polished and chic for day or night.
Pointelle Textured Knit Fit & Flare Dress
You can’t go wrong with a simple knit dress and I love the details on this one.
